Former Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister and veteran Congress Party leader Hira Singh Bisht has passed away. His last rites were performed at the Adhoivala Nalapani crematorium on Sunday, July 26th. His son, Siddharth Bisht, lit the funeral pyre. Earlier, Chief Minister Dhami visited his residence and paid tribute to him by placing a wreath on his body. He also met with the bereaved family and expressed his deep condolences. Congress State President Ganesh Godiyal, Cabinet Minister Khajan Das, Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, Election Management Committee Chairman Harak Singh Rawat, and Election Campaign Committee Chairman Pritam Singh, along with several other leaders and workers, paid floral tributes to his body.
According to reports, Hira Singh Bisht complained of chest pain around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday night. His family members then took him to a private hospital on East Canal Road, where he passed away. It is also being reported that he had been unwell for a long time. His death sent shockwaves throughout the Congress and political circles. He lived in a house on Sewak Ashram Road.

Hira Singh Bisht was a prominent public figure, a senior Congress leader in Uttarakhand, a former cabinet minister, and a three-time MLA. He was born on November 4, 1940, in Pauri Garhwal district. He was a voice of labor organizations. As the state president of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Uttarakhand, he championed the rights of workers and laborers. He established himself as a labor leader during his political career spanning more than five decades.
His political journey began in the 1970s as president of the DAV PG College Students’ Union. He held various responsibilities within the Congress organization for a long time and established a strong following among the party workers.

His entry into active politics began with the 1977 Lok Sabha elections, contesting the Tehri Lok Sabha seat, but was unsuccessful. In 1985, he contested the Dehradun Assembly seat and reached the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Bisht, who had a keen interest in sports, initiated the acquisition of land for an international cricket stadium in Dehradun. The stadium took shape during the Congress regime after the formation of Uttarakhand. After the formation of Uttarakhand, he contested the first Assembly elections in 2002 from the Rajpur constituency. He served as the Minister of Transport, Labor, and Technical Education in the ND Tiwari government. In 2014, he won the by-election for the Doiwala Assembly seat. After this, he continued to contest Assembly elections but was unsuccessful.
