The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony was held on September 14th at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. The grand event was hosted by Mariska Hargitay, the famous actress of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” It aired in India on the morning of September 15th. This year, HBO Max’s medical drama “The Pit” received 25 nominations and emerged as the leading contender. “Hacks” received 24 nominations. Other major contenders included “Widow’s Bay,” “Pluribus,” “Beef Season 2,” and “DTF St. Louis.” In the comedy category, Jean Smart made history by winning Best Comedy Series for “Hacks.” This was her fifth consecutive win in this category. With this, she became the first performer to win an Emmy Award for every season of a show. Her total Emmy Awards now stand at eight, joining Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Cloris Leachman, and Allison Janney in the record books. Matthew Rhys also had a memorable night. He won Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for “The Beast in Me.” This achievement made him the first performer to win Emmys in all three lead acting categories. He was also nominated this year for Apple’s “Widow’s Bay.” In the Drama category, Noah Wyle won Best Actor for “The Pit,” his second consecutive win in the category. Rhea Seehorn won her first Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series for “Pluribus,” while Allison Janney won Best Supporting Actress for “The Diplomat.”
