“Return & Earn” Plastic Waste Initiative Rolls Out in Haldwani, Bhimtal & Corbett – ₹2 Per Item via QR Code

A new initiative is launching in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, a refund of ₹2 per item is available for returning plastic waste, such as chips packets, bottles, and cans. A Hyderabad-based recycling company has partnered with the government to keep the city clean and pollution-free. Returning empty plastic items, such as chips packets, cold drink cans, or tetra packs, will offer a ₹2 refund per item.

This initiative is being implemented in Haldwani, Bhimtal, and Corbett Park in Ramnagar, encouraging people to return garbage instead of throwing it on the streets.

On June 5th, World Environment Day, a stall was set up in front of the Haldwani Municipal Corporation under the Swachh Bharat Mission, with the theme “Sabka Saath Swachh Uttarakhand.” People were informed that returning empty packets and plastic bottles would result in a ₹2 refund. However, since it was the first day, some people did not return this waste.

The employee at the slot explained that this initiative is currently being implemented as a demo in these three cities. He explained that if anyone returns such an item, they will attach a Return Earn Recycle QR code. After scanning this QR code with a hand-scanning device, 2 rupees will be credited to the consumer’s account.
