Recently, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan married his longtime friend Gauri Spratt, whom he introduced on social media during his 60th birthday celebrations in March last year, at his Mumbai home. He had been dating for over two years before the wedding, making headlines for this.
But after his marriage, he is also being called a brand ambassador of “love jihad.” on which he broke his silence, he says his family has always supported interfaith relationships and none of his marriages involved religious conversion. He stated that his family members have converted to both Hinduism and Christianity through marriage. Responding to allegations of love jihad, he said, “The truth is, our family is very social. Both my sisters are married to Hindus, my daughter is also married to a Hindu, and my cousin Mansoor is also married to a Christian.” He also claimed that he has not converted his three wives.
Aamir Khan was first married to Reena Dutta from 1986 to 2002, and then to film producer Kiran Rao in 2005, after which they announced their separation in 2021.
Uttar Pradesh’s chief Mufti, Maulana Chaudhary Ibrahim Hussain, issued a fatwa objecting to the marriage, claiming that under Sharia law, a Muslim man cannot marry a woman of a non-Islamic religion.
This incident reportedly occurred just days after Aamir and Gauri’s private registered wedding ceremony. The actor has not yet commented on the matter, nor has his team. They are silent.
Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, the royal chief mufti of Darul Ifta, a Muslim religious institution, issued a fatwa on Aamir and Gauri’s marriage, stating that it was not permissible under Sharia because Gauri is not Muslim.
In a video that recently surfaced online, the cleric stated that Islam prohibits Muslim men from marrying non-Muslim women and that such marriages are a sin for which they will be answerable before Allah. The cleric also strongly objected to Aamir’s third marriage, stating that such marriages tarnish the image of Sharia and Islam. Social media users are reacting to this.
This controversy reportedly arose after Aamir Khan clarified the allegations of love jihad regarding his marriage. He stated that his family has always supported interfaith relationships and described all three of his marriages as civil marriages.
