Actor Mukesh Khanna is once again in the headlines due to his recent statement regarding the National Anthem.
“Shaktiman” fame Mukesh Khanna says that the national anthem should be “Vande Mataram,” not “Jana Gana Mana.”
Actor does not consider “Jana Gana Mana” to be the national anthem.
In an interview with IANS, Mukesh Khanna said that “Jana Gana Mana” was actually a tribute to Queen Elizabeth. He said, “I had said three years ago that “Vande Mataram” should be made the national anthem. “Jana Gana Mana” is not our country’s national anthem. It is a tribute to Queen Elizabeth. Mukesh Khanna also said that the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ should be made the national anthem because it belongs to us.
He said : Bhagyavidhata, Punjab, Sindh—these are not ours. ‘Vande Mataram’ belongs to us. Lataji (Lata Mangeshkar) sang it beautifully. I had a meeting with Kalyanji-Anandji (composer duo). It’s been two years since I read it. I’ve recorded a seven-minute version of ‘Vande Mataram’, which should become memorable. It’s worth noting that ‘Jana Gana Mana’ is our country’s national anthem, while ‘Vande Mataram,’ composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, is the national song.
This time, during the main celebrations of the 80th Independence Day, the full version of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ was played just before ‘Jana Gana Mana.’
