Auli came into prominence in the 8th century when Adi Guru Shri Shankaracharya established a monastery at Joshimath, about 6.6 kilometers from here, which still exists today. Following the establishment of the monastery, the place became known as the gateway to the Himalayas. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for destination weddings in India, Auli in Uttarakhand is becoming a popular destination for weddings, with many couples choosing Auli as their wedding destination.
