World Environment Day 2026 : "Inspired by Nature - For the Climate - For Our Future."

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5th across the world. Environment Day aims to raise awareness about environmental protection. This year’s theme is “Inspired by Nature – For the Climate – For Our Future.” The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is also leading the global campaign #ClimateNow, which calls for strong action against climate change. The theme promotes reducing atmospheric carbon and living in harmony with nature, with a focus on climate change and its solutions.

The global events are being hosted by Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The decision to celebrate this day was taken after discussions at the World Environment Conference held by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. Since then, World Environment Day has been celebrated on June 5th, 1974. As part of the campaign, a tree plantation program was organized on the 21st day in the office colony of Izzat Nagar Division. Divisional Railway Manager Veena Singh, Additional Divisional Railway Manager Manoj Kumar, all the branch officers of the division, along with railway employees and other stakeholders, enthusiastically participated by planting fruit and shade trees and expressing their commitment to environmental protection.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to the countrymen, commending those working for environmental protection and protecting the environment. He stated that this is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to sustainable development. He also wished the countrymen a Happy Environment Day on the social media platform Instagram.

Referring to the various steps taken by the Central Government in the field of environmental protection over the past decade, he noted the positive results of these efforts. He noted India’s major achievements include the expansion of green cover and a significant increase in the population of many wildlife species. According to PM Modi, environmental protection can be given a new direction through collective efforts, effective policies, faith in science, and innovation.
