Bollywood actor Imran Khan, nephew of actor Aamir Khan, has been issued a notice directing him to leave India by October 28, 2026, following his participation in a protest in Mumbai. According to reports published on October 15, the notice was issued by the authorities after Khan joined a demonstration at August Kranti Maidan demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The development has brought the actor into the spotlight amid a wider controversy over participation in political protests by foreign nationals.

The notice follows a complaint by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, who questioned Khan’s participation in the demonstration, citing his foreign citizenship and alleged violations of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) rules and visa conditions. Khan is reported to hold US citizenship and an OCI card, which allows eligible foreign nationals of Indian origin certain privileges in India but does not confer Indian citizenship. Somaiya had urged the authorities to investigate the matter and take action.

The protest took place on October 10 at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Khan was detained along with his partner, actor Lekha Washington, and others before being released. According to report, Khan said he had attended as a citizen living in Mumbai and questioned restrictions on freedom of movement and public expression

The case has also raised questions about the legal rights of OCI cardholders and the limits on their participation in political activities. The reports has noted that OCI status does not grant Indian citizenship and that a complaint or allegation alone does not automatically establish a violation or justify deportation. The latest notice sets October 28 as the deadline for Khan to leave India; any further legal developments will depend on the authorities’ actions and any response from the actor.
